About Oak Ridge Canyon

Oak Ridge Canyon is my new HO layout that is now under construction. The layout is due to be ready for the end of November 2009 and is booked for it's first showing at the Darlington Model Railway Exhibition on the first weekend of December 2009.

The layout is built on two separate levels with lower one depicting a small station and depot. Behind the station are the buildings of the town itself. The main street buildings are mainly DPM kits whilst the downtown buildings are all scratch built using a variety of materials. The train consists on this level area mostly railroad companies that were the forerunners of the now Burlington Northern and Santa Fe.

On the higher the local industrial engines are hard at work hauling whatever will bring in much needed revenue to the struggling coffers. Most of the motive power was purchased second or third hand from the Mount Dora Ore and Lumber Railroad when it went into liquidation.

There are a number of bridges spanning the two gorges, whilst the main line is crossed by a high level viaduct. Also on the high level a Scale Structures turntable has been installed and there is a small amount of dual guage and Hon30 trackwork.

Both of the 6 road storage lines are complete after the installation of 20 point motors, 12 switches and 70 diodes. The canyons and the rock faces have been constructed using either light weight plaster or two pack polyurethane foam to try and keep the weight of each baseboard as light as possible.
